Folded Book Page Paper Wreath
Wreaths are one of the best ways to update your home decor. They are exceedingly simple to make, and are just large enough to draw your attention without being obnoxious. Plus, they are designed to be a temporary decoration and easy to move or relocate. That makes it easier than ever to switch things up.
I have made dozens of other great paper wreaths in the past using old book pages and craft paper, but this one is a new favorite. I especially love that this wreath is so versatile, but being able to get my sons involved in making it is a huge bonus. Whether you put kids to work folding the paper or helping you glue the pieces to the form, it’s a great kid-friendly project.
Where Can I Get Old Books for Crafting?
This is one of my most frequently asked questions. Many people don’t like the idea of tearing apart a book for crafts, but they don’t realize that I’m not out buying brand new nice books for these projects.
The best places to find books suitable for crafting are at local thrift shops, donation centers, second-hand book shops, and your local library. There are often books that have pages missing or a cover was torn off that can’t be sold or used. These places typically collect and either add to the recycling bin or throw them away.
All you have to do is reach out to these local places and ask if you can have them instead of them being thrown out. Not everyone will give them to you, but many places are more than happy to let you pick up the books they cannot use.
Another great place to look for books is at your local school. At the end of the school year, they often clean out books from classrooms, including textbooks, that are no longer useful or torn up. Ask ahead of time and see if your kid’s school or teachers will hold onto those books for you to use in your next project.
Can I Use Different Paper for My Wreath?
Of course, you can use any paper you wish to make this wreath! I personally love the vintage look of using old book pages, but that doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Craft paper, card stock, scrapbook paper, or even old magazines are all excellent choices.
The size of the book pages is ideal for making this particular wreath, but you can cut traditional A4/8×10 pages down to the same size and use instead. You can even pick up coloring books or print your own patterns on pages and use them for this wreath if you prefer.
How Can I Customize This?
One of my favorite things about paper wreaths like this is that you can make them work for any holiday or season. A few simple changes give you a whole new wreath! Using different types and colors of paper mentioned above is just one of many ways you can truly customize your folded paper wreath.
- Decorate with a large ribbon bow instead of flowers.
- Change out the flowers to different colors or styles for different holidays and seasons.
- Add a bit of glitter on the edges of the papers for sparkle.
- Stain or paint the paper to give it a more rustic look.
- Mix and match the colors of paper and book pages you use so it has a patterned effect around the form.
- Use a different wreath form and skip sections so that the form shows through between the pages.
- Tie longer strips of paper around the wreath form instead of gluing them into place.
How do You Hang This Wreath?
While this wreath doesn’t have a built in string, twine, rope, or hook on the back, that doesn’t mean you can’t add one! I like to keep a few different types and colors of wreath hangers in my decor closet so I can hang them on the door without needing anything extra. That said, many people prefer to hang directly onto the door or even on a wall, and a nail and some kind of hanger on the actual wreath is needed.
You can easily tie or glue on a length of twine or rope in matching colors for your wreath. I like the rustic look of this so would likely use a jute or rustic rope length. You could also match the flowers by adding a length of blue or green colored ribbon.
If hanging with ribbon or something like a fishing line, just make sure it is properly secured and tied around the wreath form so it doesn’t break easily. Make sure what you use to hang the wreath is strong enough to hold up the weight when hanging.
Supplies Needed
How to Make a Paper Wreath from Book Pages
Tear out 50-60 pages from an old book.
Fold the page in half.
Then, fold that page in half again.
Unfold the page, and now reverse the folds so the two outside edges are folded in to the center crease.
Now, fold those flaps inward toward the new center crease.
Use a bit of hot glue along one side to then fold that over itself creating a flat length of paper.
Continue this process until all of your book pages have been folded and glued together.
Wrap a strip of folded paper around the wreath form. Pull the paper so that the longest part is on the outside of the wreath, and the rest is just wrapped around to cover the wreath form.
Glue the edge of paper to the piece on the back side. You want this to just be long enough to secure together with the side sticking out from the back to be longer.
Continue this process until the entire wreath form is covered. This should take 25-30 strips of the prepared paper.
Now, fold the remaining strips of paper in half at an angle. You don’t want them straight but overlapping and creating a slight “v” shape.
Glue these on the back of the wreath between the other strips of paper so they are at an offset filling in any gaps. Continue gluing these in place until you’ve covered the entire wreath again.
Remove a few of the flowers from their stems, and glue them onto the front top of the wreath. Arrange them to your preference and add in some of the greenery between the flowers.
Next, use the ribbon, cut a length and create a small bow, and glue in place among the flowers.
Now your wreath is ready to hang on your door!

Crafter’s Tip
I love any hacks that save me time while crafting. Not only have I fall in love with using hot glue rope instead of sticks, I love my hot glue gun holder. This makes it much easier to keep everything together. It also keeps me from burning myself, the table, or having glue sticking everywhere when working on a project.
Another useful addition to your craft station if you make a lot of wreaths is to add a few wreath hangers. I like a nice metal hook wreath hanger and this amazing wooden stand wreath hanger.
