Learn How to Make a Lovely Scalloped Pattern of Crochet Edging

Crochet involves in creating a fabric out of yarn by using a crochet hook. It is a relaxing and enjoyable hobby. Aside from that, you can also use your creativity and make something useful and profitable out of it. Additionally, crochet makes a good exercise for your hand.

Today, I am sharing a tutorial I got from Simply Daisy of a crochet shell edging — simply referred to as a scallop edging. This pattern is a real classic that never goes out of fashion. It gives your crocheted item a pretty finish and neat edging. So, let’s get started.

Here are the things you will need:

• Granny square project with 3 rows
• Yarn (for the scalloped edge)
• Crochet hook
• Sewing needle
• Scissor

Instructions:

Step 1. Make a knot into the granny square

Insert the crochet hook into a chain that you like and wrap the yarn around the hook. Pull through and make a knot that will secure the yarn into the granny square.

Step 2. Start with a single crochet

Insert the hook into the same place where you attach the yarn. So you have to yarn over and come out, and that this gets the loop back on your hook. Next, you’re going to chain one, and start a single crochet that will go all the way around the granny square.

Step 3. Make a single crochet

To make the single crochet, you need to insert the hook in between the double crochet. Then, yarn over and make the hook come out. This will get two loops into the hook. And then yarn over and pull through both loops. Continue going into the spaces up the double crochet.

Step 4. Continue doing the same pattern

Insert the yarn into the lower hole and then yarn over, come out, yarn over, and pull through. Then do it again. Continue doing the same way. One single crochet into the hole, another single crochet between each of the double crochet, and when you get to the corner, do a three single crochet.

Step 5. To finish the single crochet

To finish the single crochet, you’re going to slip stitch, insert, yarn over, comes out, and pull through. Then, to fasten it off, you’re going to chain one and pull through too and cut the yarn with your scissors. So you’re done with the single crochet around the granny square that will serve as a base for the scallop edging.

Step 6. Make the scallop edging

Insert the hook into the corner of the second single crochet. Continue the same pattern, wrap the yarn around the hook, pull, and make a knot. Insert the hook again into the same hole, yarn over, and come out.

Step 7. Follow the pattern

Skip the first single crochet and insert into the next. Then do a five double crochet into it. So you skip and insert, yarn over, insert, yarn over, come out, and you’ll have three loops on the hook. Then yarn over and pull through.

Step 8. Finishing the scallop edging

Repeat the same directions all the way around your project. Fasten off and weave the ends and you’re done! Now keep on practicing and try it with your next project. Enjoy!
