Start sewing with confidence

Follow these steps in order. You do not need expensive equipment or advanced skills to begin.

Know your machine

Learn the power switch, presser foot, bobbin, stitch selector, handwheel and reverse control.

Start with fabric scissors, pins or clips, tape measure, seam ripper, needles, thread and an iron.

Practise straight stitches

Use spare cotton fabric to practise speed control, straight lines, corners and backstitching.

Understand patterns

Learn grainlines, cutting lines, notches, seam allowance and simple pattern instructions.
